POLISH CHAMBER PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA SOPOT

Orchestra was founded in 1982 at the initiative of Wojciech Rajski. Its core consists of string instruments, but it also performs in an expanded lineup with a group of wind instruments. Under the name Wojciech Rajski Chamber Orchestra, it made its debut in Gdynia in June 1982, and just a few days later, it opened the Schleissheimer Sommer festival in Munich.

In 1987, the ensemble went on tour to the United States (33 concerts). It has also performed twice in China (1990, 2016) and in Japan (1997), as well as in Mexico and the Canary Islands. Since its inception, the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot has been a regular guest at renowned European festivals, such as the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Prague Spring, and La Chaise-Dieu. It has frequently appeared at the Łańcut Music Festival and the National Philharmonic in Warsaw. The orchestra has had the opportunity to play in prestigious concert halls, including the Leipzig Gewandhaus, Hamburg Musikhalle, Paris' Salle Pleyel, and Vienna's Goldener Saal Musikverein, often accompanied by distinguished soloists such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Natalia Gutman, Sabine and Wolfgang Meyer, Mischa Maisky, Raphael Oleg, Gary Karr, Ivo Pogorelić, Aleksandra Kurzak, Roberto Alagna, Piotr Beczała, Rolando Vilazon, and many others. The ensemble's concerts during their tour of Germany (2014) with world-renowned pianist Krystian Zimerman received excellent reviews in the local press. The orchestra boasts a portfolio of over 60 recordings for many prestigious record labels. In 2015, after 8 years of work, the orchestra completed recordings of all nine L. van Beethoven symphonies for the TACET label.

Since 2011, the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot has been the organizer of the Sopot Classic International Music Festival. The director remains the ensemble's founder – Maestro Wojciech Rajski. The Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot, operating within the structures of the Baltic Artistic Agency BART, is a cultural institution of the City of Sopot and the Pomeranian Voivodeship self-government.
