MARIA LAURA MARTORANA

A versatile performer of baroque, bel canto, and contemporary repertoire, Maria Laura Martorana hails from Italy and is renowned as a coloratura soprano. She has garnered distinctions in international competitions and, since 2003, has graced the stages of illustrious theaters such as La Scala in Milan, San Carlo in Naples, la Fenice, Theater An der Wien, Halle, Versailles, Basel, as well as theaters in Korea. She has sung in operas and concerts under the batons of notable conductors like Abbado, Antonini, Curtis, Fasolis, Jurowski, Marcon, Rousset, and Sardelli.

Among her most celebrated roles are Alcina, the Queen of the Night, Lucia, Gilda, as well as Neapolitan and Venetian 18th-century coloratura characters. Maria Laura has recorded for labels such as Sony, Brilliant Classics, Dynamic, CPO, Nuova Era, and Virgin Classics, presenting works of Mozart, Paisiello, Rossini, Porpora, Handel, Vivaldi, Cherubini, Sarro, and Salieri. She has a keen interest in delving into ancient manuscripts.

Intriguingly, Maria Laura is a graduate in molecular biology and spent two years as a researcher at the Curie Institute. She currently teaches Canto at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Italy and Canto Rinascimentale e Barocco at the Conservatorio Briccialdi. She is also a guest lecturer at the DWF Academy of Belcanto in Basel.
