Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin

In 2022, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin (Akamus) celebrated its 40th anniversary. Founded in 1982 in Berlin, the ensemble is now one of the leading chamber orchestras in the world performing Historically Informed Performance (HIP). From New York to Tokyo, London to Buenos Aires, Akamus is a welcome guest, regularly appearing at major venues in Europe and beyond. Akamus has become a cornerstone of the Berlin cultural scene, maintaining its own concert series at the Konzerthaus Berlin for over 30 years and collaborating with the Staatsoper Berlin on their baroque repertoire since 1994. Additionally, since 2012, the ensemble has its own concert series at the Prinzregententheater in Munich.

Apart from working with guest conductors, the orchestra is often led from the leader's chair by one of its two concertmasters, Bernhard Forck or Georg Kallweit. The ensemble has an especially close and lasting collaboration with René Jacobs.
