VOLODYMYR Syvokhip

Musicologist and conductor, graduate of the departments of history and theory of music at the Lviv Conservatory. He defended his doctorate in philosophy at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He began his conducting career in 1995 with the Gloria Chamber Choir and the Leopolis Orchestra. With these ensembles, apart from numerous tours, he prepared original programs of contemporary composers. He participated in prestigious music festivals: Bach-fest in Sumy (Ukraine), Freiburg Music Festival (Germany), Lohtaja Church Music Festival (Finland), Falera Music Festival (Switzerland). Along with the Hilliard Ensemble, he presented the works of Arvo Pärt.

With the Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, he performed in the United States and China. Moreover, he conducted at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, at the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, and at the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin. With the Gloria Choir, he made numerous radio and television recordings. He was the first to record on a compact disc the opera "Alcide" by Dmitri Bortniansky and the Church Concert (Requiem) by Myroslav Skoryk. He also recorded religious music "Kamo pojdu ot lycia Twojego" by Mykola Lysenko and the Ukrainian carols "Lux Aeterna."

For his artistic and musical-social activity, he received numerous awards, including the Stanisław Ludkiewicz Award, the State Award named after Mykola Lysenko. He was granted the honorary title of Meritorious Art Activist of Ukraine, People's Artist of Ukraine, and he also received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, as well as the honorary badge "Meritorious for Polish Culture."
